The Pember Museum collections are a wonderful example of the bio-diversity of the area 100 years ago, and also include speciments from around the world.
There are over 7,000 objects in the collections of the Pember Museum, covering a wide variety of natural history subjects. Nearly 80% of the collections are on display. Specimens include vertebrate (birds, mammals and reptiles) and invertebrate animals (insects, arachnids and sea life), rocks and minerals, fossils, some anthropological and historical materials, and a herbarium (dried plant speciments).
Please join us at the Pember on Saturday April 23 starting at 4PM for our Bags, Buttons & Bows fundraiser.
We’ve all done it: bought that perfect handbag, scarf, or piece of costume jewelry. And there it sits, years later, still in your closet with the tags on. Donate these lost items to the Pember. We’ll accept handbags and other accessories in good condition (no shoes or clothing please). Donations will be accepted until April 20. Then on Saturday, April 23, you’ll get a chance to buy what somebody else found in their closet. It may be perfect for you! You do not need to donate to take part in the sale.
For each item donated, you’ll get a playing card (up to three cards). Additional cards may be won or you may buy up to two additional cards. The top three hands at the end of the afternoon will each win a prize. There will be door prizes throughout the afternoon. Light refreshments will be available. For more information, contact the Pember, 33 West Main St., Granville, 518 642-2525.
We have the collections now online for your viewing. Additional information regarding the collections can be found on the "Collections" page under the Museum tab.
Easy to follow directions can be found on the site itself. We are constantly adding new data and correcting information in the records. If you see an error in the data please contact us. For questions regarding the collection, or online database, contact the Pember at 518-642-1515 or email at firstname.lastname@example.org.

Attention young artists! The Pember Library and Museum is seeking artwork submissions to illustrate a soon-to-be self-published story featuring Lucy the library cat. Children grades K-6 are invited to visit the library during its regular hours to meet Lucy and spend time on their artwork. We ask that children bring their own sketchbook and use white paper no bigger than 8-1/2 x 11. The library does have markers, pens, pencils available, as well as excerpts from Lucy’s story to assist with picture ideas.
This book creation is a fund-raising effort for the Pember Library and Museum. The story is written by Kristina E. Martin. The deadline for submissions is January 31, 2016. For more information please contact the library at 642-2525.
1,000 BOOKS BEFORE KINDERGARTEN
SETS CHILDREN ON THE PATH TO SUCCESS . . .
ONE BOOK AT A TIME
Starting December 1, families are invited to join the 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten program at the Pember Library. The 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten program is a nationwide challenge that encourages parents and caregivers to regularly read aloud to their children. By reading just one book a night, families can reach the 1,000-book goal in three years and provide their children essential early literacy skills.
Research shows that the most reliable predictor of school success is being read to during early childhood. Reading to children from an early age can help close the vocabulary gap and prepare children to enter kindergarten with the skills they need to succeed. Most importantly, sharing books with children promotes a lifelong love of books and reading.
The 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten program is available to all families with children between the ages of birth and five years. Registration is open. Fill out the attached registration form and bring it into the library to get your starter packet. For more information, call the library at 518 642-2525, or visit our website, http://pember.sals.edu
This program is free of charge.
